IBL Most Valuable Player/John Bell Memorial Trophy - Ryan Spataro, Barrie Baycats
Spataro, who also captured MVP honours in 2005, enjoyed a banner season for the Baycats. The veteran outfielder batted .384, finishing in a tie for the league lead with Frankie Hare of the Guelph Royals, with both players going 38-for-99. In 24 games, the 27-year-old Barrie native also finished second in the league in on-base percentage (.474) and ninth in slugging percentage (.505).
Spataro also stole 10 bases in 11 attempts, and added one homer and 16 RBI along with seven doubles, making him a huge threat at the top of the Barrie lineup game in and game out.
IBL Rookie of the Year/Brian Kerr Memorial Trophy – Andy St. Gelais, London Majors
St. Gelais, a 22-year-old righthanded pitcher, received 31 votes to edge out Cody Mombourquette of the Ottawa Fat Cats (24 votes) and Brian Ivan of the Toronto Maple Leafs (12 votes) in the balloting.
St. Gelais (7-3) led the IBL in wins, was third in strikeouts (58) and second in ERA (2.30) while anchoring the Majors pitching staff. The Pintendre, Quebec native workhorse pitched 70 1/3 innings in 12 games, 10 of them starts. He had one shutout and added two saves.
